In 1970, Herman Miller’s first in-house graphic designer was given the task of creating a poster for the company’s annual summer picnic. The designer’s background in screen printing made that his medium of choice for the first design, and he has continued to use this printing process even to the most recent poster. The card series is meant to be a true reflection of the posters. By taking the playfulness and composition from the original designs, but adding modern attributes, the designs could be used for smaller items, such as greeting cards. This series was intended to be a tribute to one of my favorite designers, who has influenced the world of art and design forever.
